CURTISS O. FLOYD, D.D.S.,B.S., F.A.G.D.,F.A.C.D., F.I.C.D. As a nationally recognized clinician, author, and lecturer, Dr.Floyd has provided his patients with excellence in dentistry since 1967. Prior to coming to Springfield, Dr. Floyd was dentist to the President's Marine One helicopter pilots as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy. Since then, in recognition for his achievements in dentistry, he has been awarded Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists.
As an Associate Clinical Professor at SIU Medical School, Dr. Floyd has helped train our new physicians in the role oral health plays in total body health. Additionally, he was selected to be one of 250 dentists in the United States and Canada for membership in the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration. Chosen to be one of their "Masterminds", he has shared his knowledge with this elite group for years.
Dr. Floyd is highly respected in the field of cosmetic dentistry. With his post-graduate training and membership in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he is able to provide his patients with the finest cosmetic dentistry has to offer. Also, Dr. Floyd has also been very active in organized dentistry having served as President of the local G.V. Black District Dental Society and on various committees for the Illinois State Dental Society and the American Dental Association. Recently,on their behalf, he personally presented dentistry's position on pending health care leglislation to President Bush. As a founding member of the local Dawson Study Club, he has mentored many young dentists in TMJ therapy and comprehensive dental care.
He is very active in the community, especially with First United Methodist Church where he has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees two times, capital campaign co-chair two times, and Sunday School teacher for many years. He has a long term volunteer commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. He has been a Scoutmaster and President of the local Council. Recently, he was one of 32 from the 1.3 million adult volunteers in scouting selected to receive the Silver Antelope award.
He married Roberta Puntney in 1965 and they have two sons, Kevin and Mike. Kevin and his wife Kendra gave Roberta and him three beautiful grandaughters, Alexa, Abigail and Sophie. Mike, his wife Julie, and their two handsome sons, Jack and Luke, live outside of Washington, D.C., where Mike is a Secret Service Agent on the Presidential Protective Detail.
KEVIN C. FLOYD, D.D.S. Dr. Floyd graduated from Indiana University in 1992 with a degree in chemistry and received his doctorate degree from the University of Iowa which was ranked among the top three dental schools in the country. During dental school, he received a research scholarship to study children's dental sealants. He presented his research at the National Institute of Dental Research's annual meeting. Because of his accomplishments in school, he was accepted to a very sought-after hospital residency program at Barnes-Jewish and Children's Hospitals in St. Louis with an emphasis in children's dentistry. With this and other advanced training in most dental specialties, Dr. Floyd provides his patients with state of the art dental care.
Since returning to Springfield in 1996, he has held many leadership positions in the state and local dental societies, including the Central Illinois' Representative for the New Dentist Committee and delegate for Illinois State Dental Society. Most recently, he was Chairman of Continuing Education for the local dental society. He is very active in many community organizations including First United Methodist Church, Rotary Interntional, National Eagle Scout Association, and Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Floyd and his wife, Kendra, are kept very busy by daughters Alexa, Abigail, and Sophie.
LISA M. BAINES, D.M.D. Dr. Baines graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science degree. She received her doctorate degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL graduating with honors. She was one of six graduates elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the Honor Dental Society. Her other awards include the Academy of Operative Dentistry, American Association of Oral Biologists, American Equilibration Society, and the J.R.Schmidt Restorative Dentistry Award. During dental school, she researched several topics. Her research on pain response received first place at the SIU research competition in 2006. This award-winning poster was presented by Dr. Baines at the Annual Dental Students’ Conference on Research in Gaithersburg, Maryland and the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter meeting. The Academy of General Dentistry also awarded her in 2006 for her research on muscle function and the TMJ.
Community involvement is an important part of her life. She participates in Give Kids a Smile, oral health screenings and the March of Dimes. Dr. Baines designed a worksheet about oral health for the Illinois Department of Public Health that was used to educate second graders. During the last year, she has attended many post-graduate training sessions with Dr. Curtiss Floyd and the team. This training allows her to use the most up to date dental techniques and products. She is currently a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association and the Illinois State Dental Society. This year she is celebrating her three-year anniversary with her husband Steve. They are very excited to be back in the Springfield area!
